The right to receive your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format and transfer it to another service.

Data portability is the right to receive the personal data you have provided to a data controller in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format, and to transmit that data to another controller.

When It Applies

This right applies when processing is:

  • Based on consent or contract, and
  • Carried out by automated means

Common Formats

  • JSON, CSV, XML are typical machine-readable formats
  • PDF or printed copies do not satisfy the machine-readability requirement
